GRAFT
In GRAFT, Current Resonance explores the buried musicality in repetitive labour, unleashes productivity anguish through choreographed facial expressions and the sounds of boredom and dread, engages in almost grotesque levels of instrumental and physical endurance, and grapples with automated versions of themselves who seem to effortlessly carry out labour without as much as breaking a sweat. How hard are the performers willing to work? What does their sustained effort sound like? What are they working towards and who benefits from their labour?
The group are joined by composer-performer Rob Durnin. About his newly commissioned work, ens ENS: "Responsive & sensitive multi-character compatible autonomous corpus; high fidelity orientation & superior permutant mono."
In Current Resonance's reimagined version of Louis Andriessen's seminal 'Workers Union', we see automated, on-screen versions of the four performers rapidly cutting between video/sound samples of work-related actions, whilst the on-stage performers rest and recharge.
